I want to start by acknowledging your patience with regards to the training calendar this term. Oranga Tamariki are doing lots of work updating the workshops with all the new legislative changes that happened on 1 July 2019. It’s great that the new material will be current information to carry out our roles as caregivers going forward!

I have been in Westport in my travels and am delighted to say that the support group there is going strong, so thank you Bev for all your efforts. Blenheim has also had some lovely get togethers thanks to Sharon and Chloe. Yummy food and happy children. Thanks for all the photos you’ve sent me to put into our Snippets.

Please note, we can only put photos of either the backs of the children’s heads or if the children’s faces are blurred so that they are non-identifiable.

Do you want to receive a brand new bike for your child in care?

We have three free bikes to give away at an upcoming event! These bikes will be given on a first in first serve basis, so get in quick!

Please note:
If you have a child in your care, and a biological child, both are eligible to receive a free bike!
To receive the bike, the child must be between 90cm and 160cm tall (approximately 3 to 12 years of age).

If you are a caregiver and have a child in your care who would love a new bike and are interested in attending this event, please click here to fill out the application and email it to Hayley at hayley.pedersen@nullfosteringkids.org.nz.

Last week we were lucky enough to have had a bike for kids event providing six lucky tamariki with brand new bikes.

Happy Fathers Day

September is the month we pay homage to our dads. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. To our wonderful foster dads who have opened your hearts and homes to tamariki needing care. We thank you for the amazing work you do with our most vulnerable. I hope you got well and truly spoiled.

Fostering Kids NZ National Conference

Have you managed to have a look on our website to find out all about our National Conference coming up on the 16 and 17 of October, at Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre? It would be great to see as many of you from our region there as possible. It is an amazing experience, and very enjoyable too! You can find everything you need to know here:

Trainings in September

Part of the new care standards responsibilities is that Life Story work is expected to be provided for our tamariki. We have a “Keeping Memories” 2 hour session that helps caregivers to know what, who and where we should gather and store this information.

Look out for the sessions in the training calendar and register so that you have the information and ideas from other caregivers to start your Life story work for the tamariki (children) in your care.

Noho ora mai- Stay well, look after yourselves
