Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa (Warrm greetings to you all)

As the temperature starts to warm up and Labour weekend is behind us, it’s a reminder that the busy season is upon us. We start it off with the Family Fun Days on the West Coast with the movie days in Westport and Greymouth, followed by the pool parties in Nelson and Blenheim. If you would like to attend please text me for tickets.

We also have some end of year activities that you can be a part of.  See details below. Coffee groups will start to wind up for the year as will the Term 4 caregiver training workshops and discussion sessions.

I would like to reiterate the importance of peer support and the discussion sessions on offer. These give the opportunity to discuss on a more personal level how the topic relates to the tamariki that you care for. I always enjoy interacting with you and building the networks together to strengthen the supports that are integral in being able to self-care in our journeys. I hope to see many of you in the couple of months prior to Christmas and the holidays.

Noho ora mai/Stay well

These events are to help us up-skill our understanding of FASD and provide an opportunity to bring in some professionals who you could use as part of your “team”.

Did you know? – In Nelson we have a professional FASD steering committee who are working to help make changes for our children and young people in the “system”. If you know of teachers or other professionals who are interested in learning more, we can put them in touch with the steering committee to arrange specific events for them.

Appleby Salmon Ponds

Nelson Fishing and Game have again offered this wonderful opportunity to bring the kids fishing for a morning. Last year proved to be a huge success and fun for our families. Bring a blanket, drink bottle, sunnies and a hat and enjoy watching the kids head off to catch tea! We will have a sausage sizzle and a few goodies to enjoy. Several time slots will be available to stagger the amount of people using the ponds. Remember the early bird catches the worm!

Please email or txt me to reserve your spot and include how many children and your preferred time.

Times available will be 9.00/9.30/10.00/10.30/11.00 and 11.30am

Places are limited so please RSVP as soon as possible

Many thanks to Beachcomber’s Cruises for this wonderful opportunity!  We can now confirm the booking for Saturday 24 November leaving Picton at 1.30pm. We recently ran the Working or Living with Traumatised Children session in Nelson and Blenheim.  Thanks to caregivers for sharing their stories of success but also being open to look at new ways to approach the difficult times.  This month we will be running Building Secure Relationships on Saturday 17 November in Blenheim from 9.00am-3.00pm.
