Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa (Warm greetings to you all)
Last month I delivered one of the new revamped workshops, Understanding and Supporting Behaviour, in Blenheim. There was an encouraging number of participants and good feedback to the inclusion of what it means to be a therapeutic (safe & secure) caregiver. Thank you to those who have committed to attend workshops for Term 2, the numbers are very encouraging and hopefully you are all benefiting from the new material available.
We are well into planning the Upper South Regional Hui for September so please bookmark the 26 September in your diary to attend the day. Registrations will be open soon and is free for caregivers and whanau/kin carers. The theme is “Teamwork – Healing the child through connections – within homes and communities so tamariki can flourish.” More details to follow.

Training events: 7.00pm at 3/1 Koru Place, Stoke.
Bi Monthly. First Monday of the month: 2 July 2018, 3 Sept 2018, 5 Nov 2018
These events are to help us up-skill our understanding of FASD and provide an opportunity to bring in some professionals who you could use as part of your “team”.
Please be mindful that these events are for parents, caregivers and respite caregivers. Other people often don’t understand what we live with on a daily basis.
Jeff Noble puts it this way. “Professionals may see a child/young person for a certain amount of time in a day but they don’t have them 24/7. Professionals get to go home at the end of hard day – caregivers don’t.”
Did you know? – In Nelson we have a professional FASD steering committee who are working to help make changes for our children and young people in the “system”. If you know of teachers or other professionals who are interested in learning more, we can put them in touch with the steering committee to arrange specific events for them.
Would be great to see you next week at the coffee morning. There will be food and special coffees available.
