Mere Kirihimete (Merry Christmas) from the Upper South.
Here we are yet again at the end of another busy year, organising end of year activities with school holidays fast approaching. We had some great turnouts for our Family Fun days with the movies on the West Coast and the pool event in Nelson and Blenheim. It has been lovely to have some new faces join the Fostering Kids NZ whanau and we welcome you aboard.
Christmas time is of course a joyous, precious time for families but for those that we care for; it can also be sad, lonely, and confusing with split loyalties and behaviours that our kids don’t truly understand. Take extra care during this time, enjoy your families and when possible give those who need that little extra understanding a few more minutes of you to stand with them and for them.
I would like to take this opportunity to give thanks to the amazing, selfless caregivers out there who have such huge hearts for what you do.
Thank you to all those that have attended discussion groups and workshops, the numbers in the region are really encouraging and it is wonderful to see connections with other caregivers happen and support freely given to those that need some much needed understanding from those that “get it”.
I will be on annual leave from the 20 December until the 28 January and look forward to seeing you all after the break. Take care and be safe. In the meantime, the Christmas close down period for Fostering Kids NZ is Saturday 22 December, 2018 to Monday 14 January, 2019. During this time, our main line will not be manned. If your situation is critical, please call our critical support line 0800 693 278. If your situation is urgent, please call the 24/7 caregiver help line 0508 227 377.

Appleby Salmon Ponds
Nelson Fishing and Game have again offered this wonderful opportunity to bring the kids fishing for a morning. Last year proved to be hugely successful and fun for our families. We will have a BBQ brekkie, coffee and cake, Flossie the Balloon Lady and face-painting (from 9.00am-11.00am) and a few fun activities. Bring a blanket, drink bottle, sunnies and hat and enjoy watching the kids head off to catch tea! We will have a sausage sizzle and a few goodies to enjoy. We’ve organised it so there will be several time slots available to stagger the amount of people using the ponds. Remember the early bird catches the worm!
Please email or text me to reserve your spot and include how many children and your preferred time.
Times available will be 9.00/9.30/10.00/10.30/11.00 and 11.30am
Places are limited so please RSVP as soon as possible
