Kia Ora Koutou to our Upper South Whanau,
I would like to start by saying thank you to all that were able to make it to the morning teas held in the region over Foster Care Awareness Week. We can never put into words how amazing you all are and acknowledge that this is not always an easy road that we travel.
I have been privileged to be among some of our Coast families participating in the LIFT programme in Feb/Mar. We have learnt alongside each other that often we wonder why our traditional parenting strategies don’t seem to cut the mustard with the tamariki in our care. It has been encouraging to see the commitment and enthusiasm and support for each of these participants as they journey this programme together over the next five months.
If anyone is interested in having an evening get together, then let me know. For those of you wanting to connect with the growing number of current Support groups in our area then also get in touch. And of course, our facebook pages are also a great wee resource of little bits of info. I would encourage you to join the Fostering Kids Upper South Support page as this is where I tend to concentrate the bulk of my posts.
Acknowledgement must be paid to those families who suffered great loss on Friday 15 March. Such ugliness on our beloved shores is very hard to comprehend. My heart and prayers go out to everyone who was touched by this tragedy. “Waiho I te toipoto, kaua I te toiroa” Let us keep close together, not far apart.
