Nga mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa
Ko Leanne Brownie ahau
Warm greetings to you all. I’m your newly appointed Upper North Regional Coordinator (RC) for Fostering Kids NZ. I whakapapa into Ngapuhi and Ngati Pukenga on my mother’s side (she grew up in Whakapara) and Scots/Irish roots on my father’s side (he grew up in Lumsden, South Island).
I am wife (to Dennis), Mum of six and Nanny of nine. Dennis and I have been approved caregivers since 2012. We live on a small farm with three cows, seven chickens and two pet ducks (and several strays).
My previous employment was with the Ministry of Justice who I worked for for the last 18 years, so working for a non-government agency is new (and refreshing). I think I bring an appreciation of the issues within the foster care sector and hope to assist you in your caregiving roles as we work together.
I’d like to acknowledge Judi Oliver for her hard work and dedication to supporting caregivers in Te Tai Tokerau whilst in this role and, personally, for assisting me to get up and running.
The “Understanding Maltreatment” workshop date has changed to Wednesday 8 November. There are still vacancies, so if you would like to attend please register here. I will be attending to observe as part of my training (so if you’re registered I’ll get to meet you). I will also be attending the Northland Pool Family Fun Days set for 18 and 19 November 2017 – I look forward to meeting many of you at these events.
