March is special as it holds Foster Care Awareness Week – and a chance to celebrate some wonderful caregivers at the Foster Care Excellence Awards in Wellington on March 10th.
Many events around the country will be held during this week 5th – 11th March to help raise awareness of the great and important role you do.

As you will know from your recent mailout, Whangarei Foster Care Association has accepted Ricky Timms decision to step down as Key Contact person.
On Tuesday 21st of February an association meeting was held where three new Key Contact people were very warmly welcomed into the association to work alongside Sheryl Harris in planning, coordinating, networking, support caregiving in the Whangarei area.
Molly Rapana is the new secretary – email@example.com (02108481755)
Kath Tipene (0226586655)
Avalon Hyder (02102360609)
On March 21 I will be in Kaitaia delivering a Maltreatment & Family Violence training and we will be having an association meeting during the lunchtime of this day.
Please come along to share your point of view and have a say in what you would like your group/association to be doing this year.
We are looking for a new Key contact person for the Kaitaia-Kerikeri-Kaikohe-Rawene area association as well.
This person will be the Secretary for the association and I will train them to use the Fostering Kids NZ computer system (which helps with funding support for group activities).
If you might be interested in this position, please let us know. Don’t be shy. Or perhaps if you know someone who will be amazing at this please let me, or your key contacts know. They need to be a member of Fostering Kids NZ. If they are not already a member, they need to be interested in joining our awesome organisation.
For more information, please contact Frank and Margaret, or Heather Andrews.

Come and Celebrate Children’s Day – SUNDAY 5th of MARCH – a great day out for Families!
At The Pulse
Time: 10am – 1pm
There are free buses being put on by the Whangarei Bus Service. For more information, call them at 0800 002 004 for details. A wonderful day with free activities for children and an opportunity for a neat (and cheap) family day out.
We have had a great start to the year with one training already completed. Make sure you keep an eye out for future trainings as they are filled with knowledge and information around caring for our special people. It is also a great way to connect with other caregivers.
The rest of Term One training workshops are still open for you to register:
Just a reminder that caregivers can claim for mileage and childcare.
We want to reduce any barriers, so you may benefit from the great training provided specifically for caregivers.
Please follow this link to the training calendar for more details and to register.
Thank you again for the wonderful role you do as Foster/Whanau/Kin caregivers. We appreciate you.
