Upper North Update Dec 16/Jan 17

Kai ora all,

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our Family Fun Days recently at the pools in Kawakawa and Whangarei. We had record attendance numbers at both events and everyone seemed to have a great day out.

Judi-FundaysWhat a busy year we’ve had, starting with our FASD day and then so many training sessions throughout the year. I’m thrilled that our numbers are steadily increasing at association meetings as you all realise this is a place where your voice can be heard, and a place where you can support and be supported by each other.

I hope you’ve had a listen to our new ‘Carecasts’ – you’ll find them here. They are informative, relevant (because they are by New Zealand caregivers and for New Zealand caregivers), and they are easy to listen to.

We are in for a big year in 2017 with the implementation of all the changes that will be happening as Child Youth and Family become The Ministry for Vulnerable Children or Oranga Tamariki. Let’s keep hoping and praying for wonderful improvements that mean you feel better supported and listened to. Fostering Kids NZ has been working hard to convey your thoughts, experiences and ideas to those setting up the new ministry and we are very hopeful that significant changes that improve your experience as carers and the experience of the children in your care will be put into place. We’re all in this together!

For now my wish is that you begin to slow your busy lives down a little and put your focus on creating quality family times that make warm and rich memories for yourselves and the children in your care.

We appreciate you, and all you do, and we at Fostering Kids NZ wish you a very happy, a very safe, and a very relaxing Christmas and we’ll do it all again in the New Year.

Nga mihi.
