Self-Harm & Suicidal Behaviours Workshop

We are pleased to advise the Self-Harm & Suicidal Behaviours workshop has been updated and is being held in Invercargill next term on Wednesday 15 November 2017, from 9.30am -2.30pm. This will also include a two hour follow up session two weeks later on 29 November, where we will discuss the learning and implementation of strategies and see how people are getting on. Time still to be confirmed.

There are limited places available, so please register early to ensure you get a place. Registration is essential, please follow this link to register.

This five hour workshop is provided by specialists in suicide prevention from Clinical Advisory Services Aotearoa (CASA). By the end of this learning opportunity, caregivers will have a clearer understanding of how to identify and manage suicide risk in young people in their care.

It discusses the differences between self-harm and suicide and provides information about what you as a caregiver need to know about risk factors, protective factors and triggers for suicide, early warning signs of increased risk and what you can do (as a part of a team) to support a risk management plan. We will look at a range of tools for supporting the young person as well as focusing on communication with other important people involved in caring for this young person. This course has been specifically designed to meet the needs of caregivers of young people who have complex challenges including an increased risk of suicide and to provide resources that you can refer to in the future.

If you have any queries or would like assistance registering, please contact Christine on caregivertraining@nullfosteringkids.org.nz or call 0800 100 849.
