Lower South News – March 2017

Message from Barbara

Kia Ora every one

I cannot think of a better way to help humanity than by looking after our children. This month at Fostering Kids NZ we are celebrating the awesome work you all do by looking after the children you have in your home. By nurturing, loving and healing you are giving them a better chance of breaking a cycle and becoming healthy contributing members of our communities.

So personally from the bottom of my own heart I would like to say thank you, thank you, thank you. You truly deserve all the thanks there are. Please keep an ear to the ground as events and celebrations are being organized and advertised throughout March by your local sites, offices and support groups. I will make sure we are handing out L’Oréal product “because you are worth it”.

I have included a Ted talk YouTube clip that may inspire you to keep going and hang in there when the going gets tough. You may need a tissue.

Congratulations to Ann and Ron Giles along with Sally and Reece McChlery who are heading to Government House, Wellington on the 10 March to be awarded an Excellence in Foster Care Award from the Governor General.   On behalf of your region, thank you for your hard work and have a great time.

I hope to see you through March at an event or activity at a location near you.

We have had a great start to the year with one training already completed. Make sure you keep an eye out for future trainings as they are filled with knowledge and information around caring for our special people. It is also a great way to connect with other caregivers. The rest of Term One training workshops are still open for you to register and include:

Understanding & Managing Behaviour in Dunedin on 23rd March

Working with Adolescents on 29th March in Invercargill
