Kia ora,

It’s spring!!! I love all the signs of spring, don’t you?

The yellow daffodils, the specs of green appearing on the trees that have been sleeping, and best of all seeing those cute lambs bouncing around wagging their little tails. I have been lucky to have experienced these delights first hand. Three of our ewes have given us some very cute lambs we have named Larry, Lara, Lawrence and Lewis (the latter two being twins). No calves for us this spring though, we are still getting to grips with the two we bought last spring.

So what has September got in hold for everyone? I hope you will come along to a group get together or a training session! It would be great to see some new faces and familiar ones too. Have a look below and see if there is anything happening near you.

Happy Fathers Day

September is the month we pay homage to our dads. Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there. To all the dads that have opened your hearts and homes to tamariki needing care. We thank you for the amazing work you do with our most vulnerable. We hope you got well and truly spoiled.

Fostering Kids NZ National Conference

Have you managed to have a look on our website to find out all about our National Conference coming up on the 16 and 17 October, at the Waipuna Hotel and Conference Centre? It would be great to see as many of you from our Lower North region there as possible. I have been told that it is an amazing experience, and very enjoyable too! You can find everything you need to know here:

Training

I have lots of trainings happening this month and hope to see you all there!

I am visiting Dannevirke on Wednesday 4 September. We are going to hold a discussion session on F.A.S.D between 12:30 and 2:30. Why not bring your lunch along and eat with us whilst we learn together?

“The Importance of Play” is a great workshop that is for everyone, as play should not stop as we grow. We will explore strategies to play with children in a positive way and look at sensory play exploring how this can be a therapeutic tool for a child of any age. And… so much more!

This term, The Importance of Play will be held on the following dates:

  • On Wednesday 5 September (9am – 3pm) in Masterton
  • On Wednesday 18 September, we have another full day (9am-3pm) training in Palmerston North
  • Our weekend workshop this term will be in Paraparaumu on Saturday the 21 September between 9:30am-3:30pm.

Support Groups

The Horowhenua support group will be hosting a special event this month – “Making Memories with Memories” craft morning.

Please come and join us and bring with you some photos and memories you would like to capture for the children in your care. We will provide some scrap books and crafty bits to bring them alive.

We are meeting on Tuesday 10th September at Thompson House in Levin, on Kent Street. Come and join us between 9am and 11:30am for a cuppa, chat and memory making.

Please let Iona know if you want to come so she can make sure she brings enough scrapbooks! Email: iona.wilson@nullfosteringkids.org.nz or text 027 501 0394 to let her know your name and how many foster children you have in your care.

Don’t forget you can contact me via email at: iona.wilson@nullfosteringkids.org.nz or call/text me on 027 501 0394. We also have a Private Facebook group you can join too!

Ngā manaakitanga (with best wishes)

Iona
