I’d like to encourage you to connect with your local Associations, to meet up and support each other over this winter period. I know that groups around this region will be planning events and meetings and hope you will get in touch!
Fostering Kids NZ Conference will be upon us before we know it. It’s my first, so starting to get excited about that. It’s such an important event as caregivers can all get together, participate in seminars and learning sessions, network and have fun! For further information and to register please go to the conference website – www.fkconference.org.nz
Also, nominations are now being accepted for the William Wallace Awards. These awards honour young people, and provide help for them to pursue their dreams of tertiary, vocational or leadership training. Any young person in care – or who has recently come out of care – can win an award. Anyone can make a nomination. If you want to find out more about that the awards and for a nomination form follow this link, William Wallace Awards, and scroll down the page. Nominations close on Friday 4 August 2017.
We are really grateful to everyone that voted for Fostering Kids NZ at Z Trentham. $1,208 was raised to support caregivers through the work of Fostering Kids NZ.
- Do you want to find out more about the effect of trauma on the brain, so you can support and understand a child placed in your care?
- Do you know about the inside/outside age of your child and what this means to their development across the four areas of wellbeing (Te Whare Tapu Wha)
- How redeveloping trust can assist you as a caregiver?
To find out these and more come along to a training near you. Here is the Link to our training calendar.
Your local Association will have details of any meeting or events that they are running. Whether in Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti, Tararau, Manawatu or Wairarapa you have someone you can contact. For contact details of the Key Contact in your area please click here.
This month I am in Lower Hutt delivering the Teamwork course on 4th July 2017. It’s a great opportunity for caregivers to get together. Would you like to find out more about how to develop an effective care team around your child, learn problem solving techniques and how to use assertive communication to support your child? All of us want to ensure that children and young people enjoy a stable and secure placement and this course helps us look at how we can work effectively with others to increase that stability. Hope to see you there!!
This workshop and the term three training calendar is now available by clicking on this link.
