Upper South News – July 2018

Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa (Warm greetings to you all) Last month I delivered one of the new revamped workshops, Understanding and Supporting Behaviour, in Blenheim.  There was an encouraging number of participants and good feedback to the inclusion of what it means to be a therapeutic (safe & secure) caregiver. Thank you to those who have committed …

Upper South News – June 2018

Welcome to the Upper South news for June! 6 months into the year already and things don’t seem to be slowing down. We were lucky to have VOYCE – Whakaronga Mai come to Nelson in the school holidays and offer our Caregiving families a fabulous day at ProKarts. It was a huge amount of fun and I think we were …

Upper South News – May 2018

Kia Ora, Another season has come to a close and we bid farewell to Daylight Savings until later in the year. I hope everyone has checked their smoke alarms and cleaned the filters in heatpumps ready for the cooler months. It was a sharp introduction to Autumn temperatures! Thank you to all who attended the Fostercare Awareness Week get togethers …

Upper South News – April 2018

Kia Ora Whanau, We have had a busy few weeks in the Upper South with Foster Care Awareness Week and workshops. I haven’t forgotten the Marlborough region but time schedules have meant that I haven’t yet been able to get there. It has been encouraging to see carergivers increasingly engaging in support groups and we now have a venue and …

Upper South News – March 2018

Kia Ora Whanau, As I write this from home, due to IT glitches and emergency planning warnings due to Cyclone Gita, I find myself looking around and wondering what I have missed in preparation for a possible emergency. I (or more accurately, my hubby) has tied the BBQ and outdoor furniture to the balcony balustrade, the rather large and awkward …

Upper South News – February 2018

Kia Ora and welcome to 2018. I hope you managed a lovely break and enjoyed spending time with the whanau in this glorious weather, although as I write this, it is raining outside with what I am sure is well needed moisture in our region. I am looking forward to the new year and what it brings in the way …

Upper South News – December 2017/January 2018

Mere Kirihimete from the Upper South As we quickly approach the holiday season I am reminded as to why I should have had things planned earlier in the year! The weather all over the region has been stunning and hot already, the kids are getting tired, the BBQ needs cleaning, we can find the picnic table but not the legs …

Upper South News – September 2017

Kia ora koutou I think we are getting a sniff of spring with the longer evenings and the odd warm day. Those that suffer from hay fever and allergies won’t be overly impressed with the waves of pollen getting blown about. It was fabulous to see so many Marlborough caregivers and families attend the mid-winter dinner in Blenheim early last …

Upper South News – August 2017

Kia ora koutou As I write this, the first of the winter snow is falling south of here and roads are closed. We are definitely in the winter months now. Take care and plan alternative arrangements if the weather keeps causing barriers to your travel.  I hope the school holidays passed without too much disruptions. Some of my days were …

Upper South News – July 2017

Kia ora Upper South I want to take this opportunity to encourage any caregivers that would like to attend this year’s National Conference in Christchurch to have a look at the website for details. This is a great opportunity for the South Island, as we don’t have it down here very often and the quality of the Key Note speakers …

Upper South News – June 2017

Kia ora everyone As we creep closer to our coldest, wettest months, a friendly reminder to check smoke alarms, gutters for leaves and to clean the filters on your heat pumps for maximum efficiency. Living in our region this winter also means to familiarise yourselves with the current highway changes. The new speed limits on the open roads have changed …

Kia ora everyone Now that the school holidays are over and we’re all settling back into the school routines, I hope you manage to take a breather!
