2017 Excellence in Foster Care Awards recipients.
Pauline made the trip to Government House to collect the award on behalf of husband Bob, who couldn’t travel because of ill-health.
Pauline and Bob have been providing foster care in Canterbury for 18 years. In that time they’ve cared for more than 80 children.
Social workers say Pauline and Bob are both focussed on what is best for the tamariki and have a great understanding of the impact on attachment of placement breakdowns.
They now focus on the ‘under 2s,’ often taking infants into their care at birth, nurturing them intensively for as long as they need it, then providing wrap-around support to new, permanent, caregivers during the transition process.
Pauline and Bob remain committed to learning in the role – attending training sessions and conferences run by Fostering Kids NZ. They are also heavily involved in the wider caregiving community, offering experience, understanding and support to those who need it.
