Central North News – March 2017

Message from Gonny

Kia ora koutou

It’s a busy month ahead with Foster Care Awareness Week starting from Sunday 5 March on Children’s’ Day.  No doubt there will be lots of local events planned for your family to attend on Children’s’ Day.  The role you do as a Foster/Whanau/Kin carer is so important. We appreciate you.
There is “The Big Splash” at Rainbow Springs on Saturday 4 March 2017. I’m planning to be there myself for the first time and look forward to meeting members and your families.

I have been asked by many caregivers about Nathan Mikaere Wallis’ presentations on attachment, neuroscience, the adolescent brain and more.  He presented the latter at Fostering Kids NZ Conference 2016.

Tokoroa/Rotorua Association

A big thank you to Fran Fitzell who has been your Key Contact for support in many ways for many years.  She will be continuing with allegation support work for members and leaving the Key Contact role.  It is so valuable to have someone local in this role that members can come to with the many day-to-day often complex issues associated with fostering.  We thank you for your care and dedication Fran!

You will have noticed that we have renamed and merged Tokoroa and Rotorua association. This was at the request of the members. I look forward to working with this newly merged area and group.

Should anyone in the Rotorua area be interested in becoming a Key Contact or require further information feel free to contact me (Gonny) by email: centralnorthsupport@nullfosteringkids.org.nz or phone 07 281 1137 or 027 501 0393 (work days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).
