Kia ora koutou

It’s great to be back in beautiful Aotearoa after a month in The Netherlands visiting my whanau.  The Dutch sure are well organised with a population four times ours in an eighth of the space! They do it well, but I do appreciate our more laid back lifestyle. Summer is here and Christmas just around the corner.  I wish you well over the holiday period.  Have lots of safe fun.

I will be on Christmas leave from Friday, 22 December 2017 until Monday, 15 January 2018. During this time, should you require URGENT support, please contact 027 369 3323 and leave your name and contact number.  These messages will be checked on regular basis.

A gem from our National Conference last September in Christchurch:

One of the things that stood out for me at the presentation called “Re-awaken the Capacity to Connect in Hurt Children” by Dr Courtney Rennicke.  A simple summary of how to connect with hurt children from her presentation is the PACE Model.

P       PLAYFULNESS * Help child to experience enjoyment in the relationship.  An open, calm, ready, relaxed and engaged attitude.
A       ACCEPTANCE * Unconditionally accepting a child makes them feel secure, safe & loved.
C       CURIOSITY * Curiosity involves a quiet, accepting tone that conveys a simple desire to understand the child. Stay curious, wonder why.
E       EMPATHY * A sense of compassion for the child & their feelings. Stay with the child emotionally, providing comfort & support.
