Back to school!  I trust the holidays went well for you all.

Are you a member of our Central North Facebook closed page for caregiver members?  Here is the link.  You will find interesting articles and it is a place to connect for specific support. The posts are about notices of meetings, events relevant to caregivers, articles that spark a bit of thinking, and, it’s been great to see people posting questions or in need of support.  This is what it’s for, another support tool so you can connect in with others who journey a similar caregiving path.  Remember I’m here, Fostering Kids NZ is here and your local support/network group and association (run by your peers) are also here should you need us and to connect and not journey alone.

The Tauranga Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) meeting with Labour candidate, Jan Tinetti, went well on 4th July 17.  Jan is principal of Merivale School in Tauranga.  She told us there were several grandparents raising grandchildren as well as children in foster care at her school.  She was interested in and concerned about some of the financial difficulties of grandparents raising their grandchildren.

In the Weekend Herald, 8th July 17 (pg9) there was an interesting article -“Why do our babies keep dying?” by Dick Cuthbert (former Social Worker) this included a thumbs up for the dedication of GRG. If you would like to read this article, please click this link.

Grans Raising Grandies, Te Puke  hold regular get togethers.  Those interested please ring Ruth 027 772 2230.

Training

The Safety and Prevention Workshop in Mt Maunganui, Tauranga, was a great learning opportunity last month for us all. We are now more aware of, first of all, protection from an allegation, why an allegation might be made, the allegation process and finally, the supports available when an allegation is made.

Go to our website to view Term 3 dates, locations and to register.

  • What do you know about Maltreatment in New Zealand?
  • What are the effects of family violence on children in care?
  • Would you like to learn ways to break the cycle and help support and heal the child or young person that has experienced trauma?

To find out about these and more come along to a training near you. Here is the Link to our training calendar.

Te Rito Training

There was an outstanding response to our recent advertisement of the Te Rito Bicultural Competency E-Learning Modules. If you registered for this, by now you should have received your access to begin this training. If you haven’t received anything, please contact Christine at caregivertraining@nullfosteringkids.org.nz

We are aware a few people have been experiencing problems with their access or it not saying they have completed the modules. The training organisation, is looking into this and hopes to have it rectified soon. If you continue to experience issues, please contact us so we can pass on your details.
