Canterbury News – November 2018

Kia ora,

It was a privilege to be asked to write this month’s snippets for you all.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Lorraine at this hard time.  For those that haven’t heard of me, I’m Iona, the Lower North Regional Coordinator and the Team Leader for our Regional Coordinator team.  I’m excited to be coming to Christchurch later this month.  Perhaps I will see some of you at the CASA – Self Harm and Suicidal Behaviours training Oranga Tamariki are running.

As the end of the year rapidly draws near, everybody I speak to is busy. I find I’m having to be mindful of my own well-being and ensure I take moments to switch off from the demands that capture my attention and time. For some of us, this is easier than others. The people I notice who do this well tend to do three things: firstly, they are attuned to their own bodies, emotions and thought life and recognise when things are getting on top of them. Secondly, they have a good sense of self-worth and recognise the importance of self-care. And thirdly, they actively plan ahead moments and opportunities into their schedule to ensure they can grab some rest. I’ve included Brene Browns wonderful quote. I hope you find ways to be kind to yourself over the next month!
