Hi, I’m Nyvonne and I’m the new Regional Coordinator for Auckland South and the Waikato/Hauraki region. I’ll be working Monday – Thursday across our region and based in the Fostering Kids NZ office in Wiri, Manuwera.  Here’s a bit about me: My husband Colin and I started our care crusade around 18 years ago as Matua atawhai at Hato Petera College.  There we were lucky enough to sculpt and mold 14 boys throughout their boarding school years.  We moonlighted as respite caregivers for close friends that were Family Home parents in our spare time.  It was then we decided that in order to save the world we would need to become Family Home Caregivers.

We accepted the challenge in the mighty Waikato initially in Melville, relocating to Claudelands with a quick stop over in Fairfield.

Eight years of righting wrongs flew by and after meeting our Governor General we decided it was time to conquer Australia.  Our crusade took us to an unsuspecting Perth where we assumed new identities as Professional Therapeutic Carers for an NGO.   Australia has its share of problems but working with our world’s oldest culture was truly humbling and heart-warming.  So, now I’ve hung up my cape and decided to become the trusty sidekick to all of you super heroes out there.  My secret bat phone number is 027 501 0395, please give me a call for training enquiries, support or a chat.

I will be hosting a couple of discussion sessions before the end of the year so if you are able to come along we’ll be looking at ‘Attachment’ – What is it and why is it so important for our tamariki.  I’ll be facilitating a couple of 2 hour discussion times together in Hamilton on Tuesday 4 Dec and Manurewa on Thursday 6 Dec and I’d love to meet you.  Go online here to register or give Christine a call on 0800 100 849.

With Christmas fast approaching there is always that worry about whether or not we will be able to cater for those we care for.  Just remember time is the very best gift we can give to anyone, especially ourselves.  Please take time for yourselves these holidays.  Whether it be an extra-long bath, sitting on the back step with a really good cup of tea or listening to the music you like in the car… do it.

I’m really looking forward to next year with so much happening in and around my rohe/region.  Merry Christmas everyone and a safe New year.

No reira, tena koutou nga whanau whanui o Fostering Kids NZ (So, thank you to the wider family of Fostering Kids NZ).
