Auckland North News – May 2018

Kia ora koutou

While we are finding a replacement for the Auckland North Regional Coordinator position, I’m (Stephanie) writing the Snippets. If there’s anything I’ve missed about what’s happening in the area, let me know via email (

By now the holidays are over,  well done you if you survived it!  Planning holiday programmes or days to fill while our lovely ones are at home is a balancing act. Take a moment for yourself over these first days of settling back into school term routines.

There is a great book I’m reading at the moment called “Inside I’m Hurting” (Louise M Bomber).  It’s focus is on children with attachment difficulties in schools (from a UK perspective). It reminds me of the important role we as caregivers can have, “I strongly believe that deep down in every child, however invisible, hostile or rejecting they may seem, is a deep longing to be seen, known and truly understood”.  Go well in helping those in our care discover this.

Thanks for all your feedback about getting new training material.  We’re excited to be finally releasing “The Importance of Play” workshop in Term 2.

Over the last six months, we have been working with Oranga Tamariki to rewrite and update the three core National Caregiver Training Programme modules.  Child Development, Understanding & Supporting Behaviour and Building Secure Attachments.  As well as being updated, the contents now have a therapeutic parenting and trauma informed lens over them.  Great stuff!

Good in the Hood

It’s time to vote!

Shop at one of the Z Stations listed below throughout the month of May and you can help raise vital funds for Fostering Kids NZ or an Association.

GOOD IN THE HOOD is all about local Z Stations supporting groups who help people in their local community. Each Z Station has $4,000 to share between four neighbourhood groups. Customers vote for their chosen neighbourhood group and the funds are divided between the groups depending on the percentage of votes they receive.

Every purchase you make – not just petrol – gives you a chance to vote.
