Auckland North News – May 2017

Tēnā koutou

Hope you all had a lovely Easter and didn’t consume too much chocolate (but if you did, good on you, you deserve it). In April we started our new North Shore support groups and we hope these will take off over the coming months.

We are celebrating Mother’s Day (14th May) and this especially includes you as a Foster Mum.  Make sure you are kind to yourself, remember self-care is very important.  There will be a competition to celebrate this special day, so keep an eye on our Facebook page.

Just email me, at with your favourite ‘Foster mummy’ story for chance to win a $50 Grab One voucher, a L’Oréal gift pack, as well as some other goodies.” Winner chosen Friday 12th May 2017.

Please participate in the following survey so that I can get a better idea of what supports, you as caregivers, would like to see more of.  This is very helpful information.

Don’t forget to join our Facebook Support page. This is kept up-to-date with trainings, coffee groups, events and other information.

Association News

Please see this flyer Coffee Group Dates May 2017 for all coffee groups, including our new ones running in Glenfield and Albany.  Don’t forget you are able to attend any one of these groups, especially if you are unable to attend your local association one.  Connecting with other caregivers is a great opportunity as it is really hard to care in isolation.

Well done to our nominees for being picked for a lovely Pamper Day last month.  Debbie Spackman, Millie Richardson and Jacque Cormack.  We all had a lovely time getting pampered by the team at

If you would like to be considered for the next one later in the year, they will have 15 spots available dedicated solely to caregivers, so if you would like to be considered email me at .

Term Two workshops are now live, so make sure you register.  I will be running Carer Families, Safety & Prevention, Working with Adolescents and Team Work. Check out this link for dates and locations

To help us receive a share of $4,000, vote for Fostering Kids NZ at either Z Henderson Valley, Z Beach Road, Z Warkworth or Z Point Chev, or the West Auckland Foster Care Support Association at either Z Massey North, Z Lincoln Road or Z Hillsborough.

Fostering Kids NZ or the West Auckland Foster Care Support Association is one of the four groups being supported through Good in the Hood at these Z Stations. That means we’ll get a share of $4,000 at each station- but how much depends on how many votes we get.

To vote for us, all you need to do is buy something from one of the above stations during May and you’ll be given an orange token to put in the voting box (or if you’re a Z card holder, you’ll get two votes!).

So please head down to Z Henderson Valley, Z Beach Road, Z Hillsborough, Z Lincoln Road, Z Massey North, Z Warkworth and Z Point Chev during May and vote for us! You can also support us by encouraging people you know to vote too, by posting on Facebook or Twitter.

Supporters can also get an extra vote simply by downloading and registering for Z App (our smartphone app).

At midday on May 1, all Z App users will be given a Good in the Hood voucher for a free token straight into their Z App account—you can use this any time over the month of May while voting is on!

If you would like to help promote and be a part of the campaign, please contact me on; 027 538 9691 or

Don’t forget

The Warehouse Silverdale and Whangaparaoa branches have chosen Fostering Kids NZ (Auckland North Region) to fundraise for through their ‘Bags for Good Neighbourhood’ campaign.  We also have The Warehouse Royal Oak supporting our Foster Care Association Auckland (FCAA). This runs from February – July 2017.  So please, if shopping at these stores, show your support by putting a token in our box.  Every bit helps us support our wonderful caregivers.

Noho ora mai
