Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa (Warm greetings to you all)
I have had a whirlwind first month in this new role of Regional Coordinator for the Auckland area. I want to connect with you, your communities / neighbourhoods over time and ask that you feel free to get in touch with me.
Fortunately the other Regional Coordinators around Aotearoa are so supportive, so there is a helpful navigated pathway for me to be guided by. National Office also supports the Regional Coordinators to deliver the training workshops and to provide the advocacy to you all so it’s just a matter of time for it all to settle into place.
I enjoyed attending the ‘Carer Families’ workshop with Dallas last month. It reminded me how vital it is as a caregiver to attend trainings and learn new skills and connect with other caregivers. It also reminded me how vital it is to bridge any gaps in our caregivers’ knowledge to ensure we maintain a consistent set of core skills – and this is exactly what the aim of the ‘Carer Families’ workshop does. It takes a holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of our carer families. I am looking forward to delivering it in the North Shore on August 7. Please register here. I’d love to see you there.
There is a group of caregivers keen to begin a support group in the North Shore area (yes I know that in itself is an extensive area). It will be on the 30th of every month. See below for details and let me know if you are keen to join or begin a support group in your area. I know as a caregiver myself how important a close network is to one’s hauora (well-being).
I have been offered free tickets for children and their families to “Razzamatazz” on the 15 and 16 September in Epsom. The show lasts approximately 60 minutes and is suitable for all ages it is a fantastic family oriented Comedy with a Wow Factor!! You won’t be disappointed. Tickets are free & invitation only. The complimentary tickets are “sponsored” by local businesses. If you would like to request tickets for your family, please fill out your details on the attached form – click here, or email me and I will get the tickets for you.
Also, there is the FASD-CAN (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Care Action Network) annual workshop for Parents/Caregivers on Saturady 25 August in Auckland. See the flyer attached – click here.
I look forward to our paths crossing.
